Description
Listeria Selective Agar is used for selective isolation and detection ofListeria monocytogenesfrom food and environmental samples.
The Listeria Selective Agar utilizes the selective inhibitory components and the indicator system-aesculin and ferrous iron for the isolation or differentiation ofListeria monocytogenes.Listeria monocytogeneshydrolyzes the aesculin, producing black zones around the colonies due to the formation of black iron phenolic compounds derived from the aglucon. Gram-negative bacteria are completely inhibited. Most unwanted Gram-positive species are suppressed, but some strains ofpoorly and exhibit a weak aesculin reaction, usually after 40 hours incubation.
